Artist
Christopher Sweet is a contemporary Native American artist, born and raised in Wisconsin. Sweet is an enrolled member of the Ho-Chunk Nation and is also White Earth Ojibwe through his father. Christopher has been artistic all his life and is mostly self-taught. This motivation to learn ignites creating through experimentation with different techniques, styles, and materials.
An opportunity for solo exhibition in 2016 presented itself and this led to pursuing art as a career. Since that time, Christopher has been a recipient of awards in juried art shows along with having his art being featured in printed materials, corporate spaces, schools, medical facilities and procured for private collections.
Matriarchy
“As an artist, I create through the lens of my experience and my paintings encapsulate my thoughts, feelings and values. Deeply influenced by traditional indigenous ways of life both past and present, I draw inspiration from cultural aspects like storytelling, song, dance, regalia, community, & spiritual connectedness. A true introvert, art is a primary way for me to express myself & my artworks are an extension of me. Part of my creative process is to set intentions of healing and unity so that as I put paint to canvas those intentions will become part of my creation”.
